The Uri And Rami Museum
Kibbutz Ashdot Ya'akov Me'uchad

Exhibitions

Main

The museum of art at Kibbutz Ashdot Ya'akov Me'uchad was opened in June, 1958. It is named for Uri and Rami Nehushtan, two brothers born at the kibbutz who died tragically at young ages. Uri fell in the battle of Lod (Lydda) in Israel's War of Independence at the age of 18. His brother, Rami, died after a fatal snake bite at the age of 17, while helping a needy kibbutz in the Galilee along with his classmates. Both brothers were talented and promising artists in the field of drawing and painting, but their potential was not to be realized.

The boys' father, Meir Nehushtan, decided to honor the memories of his sons in a unique way – by the establishment of an art museum at the kibbutz where they were born and raised.
The museum exhibits contemporary art, mostly Israeli, in exhibitions which change every three months or so. In addition, the museum has a permanent collection of approximately 3,000 works, including drawings, paintings, sculpture and prints.

The museum also has an educational department for K-12 children. These educational activities are planned to whet the curiosity and help to instill an appreciation for the plastic arts at an early age. Guided tours and explanations are available to adults as well.
