After the death of Yigal Allon in 1980, his many friends erected in his memory at his home on Kibbutz Ginosar, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, the Yigal Allon Museum and Educational Center – "Man in the Galilee".
The exhibition is an expression of Allon's humanistic
approach in many areas of life. One of the
founders of Kibbutz Ginosar, Allon was a pioneer, Commander in Chief of the
Palmach and Operational Commander of the Southern Command in the War of
Independence.
During his political career he served as Minister of Labor, Minister of Immigration and Absorption, Minister of Education and Culture and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He had strong ties with Israeli Arabs, and was a comrade and friend.
The exhibits illustrate the life and legacy of Yigal Allon, providing fertile ground for a variety of in-depth educational activities, with a view to the future.
The Ancient Galilee Boat - not just for archaeologists!
The Yigal Allon Center is home to the "ancient
boat" – a 2,000-year old boat found off the coast of the Sea of Galilee,
a one-of-a kind archaeological discovery. After a visit to the boat, we will look
at a display showing life in the Sea of Galilee basin during the Second Temple
period, and learn the characteristics of the Jewish community at that time. After
that, we will set sail on the waters of the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum, where
we will tour the impressive ruins of a synagogue and a church, and see how Jews
and Christians lived side by side in Mishnaic and Talmudic times.
Mishnah and Talmud Exhibition
