The Rubin Museum is set in the former home of Reuven Rubin (1893-1974), one of Israel's pioneer artists, where he worked and lived with his family.
The artist's studio in the museum
It opened as a museum in 1983, displaying highlights from its permanent collection; a selection of landscapes, portraits and local scenes, reflecting the spirit of the formative years of Israel , the local culture and society from the 1920s and onwards. Some of these paintings have long been regarded as iconic.
The museum also hosts guest exhibits that focus and create a continuing discourse on Jewish culture and Israeli art across the temporal divide.
Also on display is a short documentary film, the artist's studio and items from his historical archive. Available are audio guides in Hebrew, English and French; guided tours and gallery talks for groups (upon advance reservation) ; a children's workshop and a historical archive and research library for students and scholars.
