Description
Bowl, "Red Polished Ware Black topped Ware" that was common during the Early Bronze Age and the beginning of Middle Bronze Age.
Small hemispherical bowl with small lug below rim. The vessel has a red external surface with blackened top and interior. The outer surface is decorated with lime; four bands of parallel lines radiate from a circle around the base - two of which are hatched and two bisect a concentric circle. Between these bands is a vertical row of three hatched diamonds. A band of criss-cross hatching, interspersed with diagonal ladders, runs around the rim.
Numbering over 400 items, the Cypriote ceramics collection of the Eretz Israel Museum was part of the private collection of Dr. Walter Moses (1955-1892), the Museum founder. The majority was purchased in Cyprus, and a smaller part, was bought in the local antiquities market. Dr. Moses endowed his collection to the city of Tel Aviv in 1955, and in 1966 the collection was transferred to the Ceramics Pavilion of the Museum.
