About the Exhibition
Thousands of people were crucified by the Romans. Most famous of them was Jesus of Nazareth in the year 30 CE. However, concrete evidence for crucifixtion was lacking until rescue excavations, carried out in 1968 by the Israel Antiquities Authority in Giv'at Ha-mivtar to the north of Jerusalem, revealed remains of a crucified male aged 24-28. The victim's ossuary is exhibited together with a replica of his heel bones pierced by an iron nail.
