Sacred Beauty: Treasures of Judaica and Jewish Ethnography

About the Exhibition

Featuring such treasures as a medieval haggadah, an Esther Scroll, a German Torah ark curtain, and unique items of costume and jewelry, this exhibition highlights acquisitions and long-term loans recently added to the Judaica and Jewish Ethnography Wing. The objects on view span a period from the 15th to the 20th century and come from both Eastern and Western Jewish communities. Individually, each of these pieces reflects a different aspect of Jewish life; together, they reveal the richness and variety of Jewish art. Selected items from a newly arrived collection of rare Bezalel School artifacts from 1906 to 1929 are also on view, including souvenirs, Judaica, colorful carpets, and plaques depicting scenes from the lives of the Zionist pioneers.
